Thanks to Orangutan Caring Week, we have a unique opportunity to meet and hear
Dr Ian Singleton and Kylie Bullo speak on Saturday night at an AOP fundraising
dinner at the Mercure in Sydney CBD.
2009 has been a very busy year and finding the time to make the contribution
you originally planned may have been difficult - it is not too late to make
a considerable contribution to AOP, show your support and enjoy a great evening!
Hear from the experts at a dinner fundraiser. Tickets are only $60 and includes
dinner and drinks and a talk by these experts. Dr Singleton has not been in
Australia for many years and is considered one of the top experts on Orangutans
in the world. You will hear the latest on Orangutan conservation, more on AOP
projects making a difference and also find out how Temara, the first-ever zoo-bred
orangutan is doing.
It'll be a great night, there will also be a raffle and the auction of some
interesting items - including a painting by Puteri one of the orangutans from
Perth Zoo!

Dr Ian Singleton Director of Conservation for the PanEco Foundation
and head of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) will talk about
the current situation of wild orangutans and the work of SOCP in ensuring the
survival of this species. AOP supports both the Quarantine Centre for orangutans
in North Sumatra and the reintroduction site at Bukit Tigapuluh National Park
in Jambi.
Dr Singleton will share his knowledge on the rehabailitation and reintroduction
process of orangutans into the wild and show results from SOCP's scientific
monitoring and implications of this reintroduction.
Kylie Bullo has worked with Sumatran orangutans for ten years.
She has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology (with Distinction) and
First Class Honours in Primate Behaviour. Kylie is Senior Orangutan Keeper at
Perth Zoo and oversees the behavioural, diet, enrichment, health and breeding
management of the colony. Three infants have been born at Perth Zoo since Kylie
has worked there and Perth Zoo houses one of the best orangutan breeding colonies
in the world.
Kylie was the keeper in charge of the release of the first-ever Zoo-bred orangutan
back into the rainforest of Sumatra in 2006 and regularly visits the site to
check on 'Temara'. Kylie has extensive knowledge and experience in the care
and management of orangutans including; husbandry techniques, captive and wild
behaviour, ecology and diet, reintroduction and release.
