Hobart and Launceston

Quiz nights were held in the north (inaugural) and south of the State. Southern Tassie held their sixth quiz night in September raising over $7,000. Another fun night of trivia with many outdoing each other in the dress-up stakes too. Dan Beard (pictured) was clearly 2016’s most outstanding candidate with a lot of thought and effort going into his costume, a very worthy winner of best dressed! Special thanks to all who donated prizes and those who support us every year. Special mention to donors: Kimberly’s Pet Taxi Services, Glory Bamber, Lesley, Cansdell, Robyn Marshall-Jung and Hazel Howie Art, with her pet portrait silent auction voucher going for $1,001! Too many highlights on the night to mention them all.

Sadly we had to say farewell to long-time Tassie volunteer, Tina Williams as she moved back to South Australia. Her contribution over several years has been very much appreciated and she will be sorely missed.

Thank you to Eumarrah Food Store in Hobart who have our donation tins in their store that raise many hundreds of dollars for us each year.

Stalls were held in the north by Kathy and her team, raising good funds.  Second hand stalls have been held in Kingston in the south on a regular basis and thanks go to all those people who donate good quality goods to recycle and raise money.

In August we ran an online Facebook raffle that raised $1,500. Thanks to all who supported this fun event and those who donated fabulous prizes that were posted all over Australia. Special thanks to Fi Millhouse for her expertise in setting up this online event.

In November, stalls were held at the Sustainable Festival on the waterfront and Salamanca Markets in Hobart. Thanks to Kim Rettig, Hazel Howie and Julia and Ursula Woods for their help on these stalls and also to donor Wendy Harvey. In 2016, we raised funds from handmade stockings that were  beautifully made by Robyn Marshall and her mum Eris, 2017 orangutan-themed diaries, recycled orangutan adoption certificates converted into cards, which proved very popular, and six designs of orangutan handmade cards by Brig Cheek. A big thank you also to our little mascot Griff (pictured with his friends) who brings in extra revenue on our stalls just by being, well cute and adorable! Looking forward to 2017 being another successful year for TOP and for Tassie contributing to the survival of our beautiful orangutans.
