Lucky Bunga is now living on Pak Ali Island at the IAR Rescue Centre in West Kalimantan. She prefers to spend her days high in the canopy, traveling and foraging for food.
Her foraging skills are excellent and she eats a wide variety of forest food including fruit, leaves and bark. It’s important that orangutans eat other food besides fruit when training for release into the forest since fruit is only abundant for a short time every year. Other food items such as leaves, bark and termites are essential in the orangutan diet.
Bunga continues to appear content with undertaking many activities by herself however she has been spending time with orangutans Galang and Santi lately. As these photos show, Bunga’s hair continues to have a mind of its own. We are thrilled that Bunga is showing such promise as a future release candidate.
