Construction of the Baby House is now complete!

For everyone who has been following along with the construction of the Baby Orangutan House, we have great news for you!

Arto and Harapi have moved into the brand new baby house

We are very happy to share that construction of the Baby House at our BORA rescue centre is now complete!

Gorgeous little Harapi and Arto were the first to move in, testing out all the fun play equipment. They are loving it, and we are so happy to see them in their new home.

The Baby House will be home to six infant orangutans in total, with Mabel, Cinta, Eboni and Ochre also moving in soon.

The Baby House has a large shared room with a play area for youngsters under three years old. It offers a safe and warm space for when they aren’t out exploring at Jungle School. And it's the perfect place for babies to play, no matter the weather!

As the babies settle in, the team will add and change the furniture and enrichment activities, to best suit their needs. But overall, it’s already looking pretty fantastic! Fresh leafy branches will also be provided every afternoon so the youngsters can practise their nest building skills in the nesting pods. The two main baby sitters are Rara and Janet, who the babies absolutely adore!

The Baby House was opened with a beautiful ceremony, attended by Indonesian dignitaries. The ceremony celebrated the wonderful achievement of the Baby House, and acknowledged those that made it possible.

We are so excited for this wonderful new home for baby orangutans. They will benefit so much from having their own space to learn and grow with other babies. They'll be able to receive the care and play time they need to one day call the jungle home.

Thank you so much to our amazing supporters for making the construction of the Baby House possible! To everyone that contributed to the project, we are so grateful for your support 🧡 Orphaned orangutans stand a chance for a safe and happy future, and it’s all because of you!
