Sweet little Harapi, now two years old and 6.65 kg, is growing steadily and slowly finding his confidence.
Gorgeous Harapi out at Baby Jungle School
Though he’s usually calm and cautious, he can be a little shy—especially around keepers he doesn’t know well and bigger orangutans. But with his best buddy Arto by his side, he’s much braver! The two are inseparable, always traveling and playing together during Jungle School. Check out this adorable video of them hanging out together at Baby Jungle School.
Harapi often prefers to stay close to the ground near his keepers rather than climbing, but he’s learning to explore at his own pace. He’s been seen foraging for leaves and fruits—and occasionally tasting soil, a common behaviour in young orangutans. Recently, he’s also started kiss-squeaking a lot, a sign that he’s finding his voice and expressing himself more.
Like his best friend Arto, Harapi adores durian—both as a treat and for enrichment. However, he’s not as fond of green vegetables like water spinach, cabbage, and mustard greens. His appetite is helping him grow well, with a 1.35 kg weight gain in the last few months and his head circumference increasing from 36 cm to 39 cm.
Despite his gentle nature, Harapi has a determined streak! When he struggled with a challenging enrichment task, he became visibly frustrated, even crying while trying to solve it. But he didn’t give up—showing resilience as he figured it out!
Thank you for supporting Harapi’s journey. Your kindness is helping him build confidence, gain strength, and take important steps toward a brighter future.
