The hunger crisis in Borneo is worsening. Wild orangutans are suffering from malnutrition and starvation. You see, as their forest home disappears, so too does their food. Wild orangutans can’t find enough to eat. They are in the fight of their lives.
Yet, it gets worse. This year is an El Nino. The dry season will be more extreme and last longer. This will affect food availability and intensify the crisis even further.
Orangutans are trapped in this awful situation. Without immediate help, many malnourished wild orangutans will die. And every life lost to this tragic hunger crisis pushes these precious beings one step closer to Extinction.
We must be ready to respond to every emergency.
Your gift today will send our rescue teams into challenging environments. You'll equip them with the supplies they need. You'll provide vital medical care to sick orangutans in the field. You'll help transport rescued orangutans to the nearest rehab centre for life-saving treatment. And much more.
Q: Why are wild orangutans starving?
A: Wild orangutans are losing ground. Illegal logging, coal mines and plantations are forcing them to live in smaller patches of forest. As their forest home disappears, so too does their food. They’re suffering in so many ways - but most of all, they’re HUNGRY.
Q: Why is the hunger crisis really bad right now?
A: This year is an El Nino. The dry season will be more extreme and last longer. This will affect food availability and intensify the crisis even further.
Q: How can we fix this problem?
A: We believe that prevention is better than cure. Right now, with the support of people like you, we are working hard to provide long-term solutions to this crisis. We’re fighting to secure and protect vital orangutan habitat from destruction. We’re also planting tree seedlings to restore the forests so the orangutans have a sustainable future with abundant food sources.
Whilst our long-term conservation efforts are creating a better future for this Critically Endangered species, we cannot ignore their immediate cries for help. We have to be ready to help when there’s an emergency.
With your support, we can rescue starving wild orangutans and give them a second chance.
Thank you for being a part of this critical effort.
